“Building things is my passion”

A word from Vincent Oggero

A student at Texas A&M majoring in Construction Science

Building is in my blood. Striving for excellence ties my passions with unlimited possibilities. As a transfer candidate, it is my dream to pursue a degree from Texas A & M University in the field of construction science. As long as I remember I have enjoyed creating and building. I was intrigued by how things are constructed. As a young kid, I spent much of my free time building forts in the woods and enjoyed being part of a goal-driven team with my friends.  To this day, I find myself taking a leadership role and overseeing what we are building. As a young adult, I have come to realize my true passion and look forward to joining the construction field and managing projects that have a positive impact on my community.

My early exposure to construction began as a grandson of a homebuilder, Ashwood Homes in southeast Houston. I spent my youth visiting job sites and listening to my grandfather share his knowledge and wisdom about his trade. This ignited a spark in me that has led me to pursue my studies at one of the largest and best construction science programs in the world. My father also had a hand in leading me to this field of study. Upon his graduation from Texas A & M (’91) with an environmental design degree, he has become a leader in his architectural firm, Sullivan Henry Oggero, based out of Houston. My father mentored me from a young age explaining how the design process works. This provided me with the opportunity to understand the evolution of this process from the design table to the construction field and ultimately the final product.

Some would say I have been very fortunate to grow up around men who share similar interests and passions when it comes to an occupational choice. I would agree, but I must also include how blessed I feel to have also been raised in a family of Aggies. I share my dad and sister’s (’21) die-hard devotion to the spirit of Aggieland. My love for traditions and the core values of Texas A & M align with the morals and upbringing I have come to appreciate as I get older.  I would be honored to earn a degree from Texas A & M and share my passion with future Aggies as my sister who just graduated has done for me. As a student, she shared the importance of strong study habits and dedication to her field of study. She also opened my eyes to the traditions of Texas A&M and even allowed me to experience some of them. Furthermore, the Aggie network has been something I have witnessed and wish to join. The Aggie community. a sacred fellowship has been a beacon for me, and I appreciate how Aggies are always willing to help fellow Aggies.

Over the past two summers, I had the opportunity to spend time discussing the science of construction with Brad Crain, the owner of Crain Group LLC, which is a construction company in my hometown. Mr. Crain, A & M graduate (’91) has fueled my passion for building and designing through these experiences. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Construction Science and has encouraged me to pursue the same degree. After our conversations, Mr. Crain saw the spark in my eye and offered me an intern position with him over the upcoming summer. This opportunity will not only grow my knowledge but also give me hands-on experience in the field.

I look forward to pursuing a bachelor’s degree in construction science. I am focused on this goal and look forward to succeeding at all the challenges the program brings as well as my future in the field.  My goal is to be a top graduate of the Construction Science Department and to become a leader in my field of study.  I also plan on minoring in leadership in the design and construction professions and achieving a Master of Science in Construction Management.

Being an Aggie has always been a goal of mine that I have worked toward throughout my education.  Graduating from Texas A&M College of Architecture with a degree in construction science will open many doors and allow me to share the knowledge and skills that will be instilled in me during my time in the construction science program at Texas A&M. This will ultimately afford me a purposeful career in construction and continue a family tradition in building.  I have always wanted to be a part of the Aggie family, and now I’m ready to make it true.

Gig’em,

Vincent Oggero
